My Approach

ABOUT ME. profile-medium

My approach is based on making a connection with you and I aim to meet you where you are. Each person is unique and my work with you is guided by this. I focus on what already works well in your life, supporting you to enhance this further. I work with you to develop simple resources to help you address your difficulties.

My training and theoretical background are central to this approach. I work humanistically and relationally. I pay attention to the mind and body (Body Psychotherapy and Biodynamic/midwife approaches). I focus on developing further the healthy attachment and nourishing experiences of love that you have received in your life.

I also work with dialogue/parts (Gestalts and IFS), imagination, dreams, EMDR, mindfulness and bodywork exercises, amongst other approaches. It is always up to you what we focus on. You will always have a choice about what you want to do.

Further Professional Experience

Alongside my private practice, I manage the Student Counselling Service at the Royal College of Music in London. In addition to counselling students and supervising the work of psychotherapy trainees and colleagues, I facilitate workshops in areas of student interest: managing anxiety and panic attacks, exam stress etc. I lead weekly meditation and mindfulness classes for staff and students to support with depression, stress and anxiety.

My Background

I grew up in a conflict zone. I have witnessed first hand the effects that violence and war have on the human psyche. How an individual and a society can heal from these wounds is a subject very close to my heart. The plight of the internally displaced, the migrant and the refugee touches me deeply.

I have a strong desire for justice in life. I feel a deep connection with those who are discriminated against because of race, faith, gender, sexual identity, disability or for other reasons.

As humans, we fear heartache. We understandably want to avoid this pain. With the support of a listening other, we can touch and share our heartache and begin to feel a sense of connection and aliveness again. This is where healing lies.

Languages

I work in English, German and Gaelic (Irish Gaelic). I also speak French to a high standard.
